River Readings to share process and solicit imagination

An unemployed cartoonist, a woman confined to her basement under house arrest, and neighbors engaged in a “fight for the future of the country” will come to life during RiverArts’ upcoming “River Readings,” which will showcase the work of three playwrights. 

The Feb. 8 event at the Shames JCC in Tarrytown will feature six actors reading the scripts and stage directions; there will be no sets or props. Each actor will read in at least two of the plays.

“River Readings” is produced by RiverArts vice president Lauren Orkus of Sleepy Hollow, who has participated in dozens of play readings during an acting career that spanned 15 years. Orkus launched the “River Readings” series in 2024.
