Librarian of the year empowers children
Lauren DeVilbiss

“Kids can change the world.”

That’s the motto of Dobbs Ferry resident and elementary school librarian Lauren Ginsberg DeVilbiss, who, for the second straight year, received an award for outstanding work as a librarian at P.S. 28 Wright Brothers in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.

In November, DeVilbiss, (known by her students as “Ms. Ginsberg”), was recognized as the School Librarian of the Year by the New York State Library Association. In January 2023, she was one of 10 librarians nationwide to receive the “I Love My Librarian” award from the American Library Association.

DeVilbiss, who has lived in Dobbs Ferry since 2016, has gone beyond distributing books for her students in pre-K through fifth grade. She also provides programming for families after school and on weekends, and has collaborated with students to fundraise more than $1 million for school projects.
