HASTINGS — As he announced his candidacy in the 2026 Colorado gubernatorial race, Phil Weiser, currently that state’s attorney general, reflected on how his Hastings origins and education here have guided the course of his career.
Weiser, a Democrat, threw his hat into the ring on Jan. 2; as of Jan. 29, he was the only declared candidate. The incumbent, Democrat Jared Polis, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.
Weiser, who graduated from Hastings High School in 1986, credits his 11th-grade Advance Placement U.S. History teacher, Robert Tucker, for setting him on the path to politics.
