Ask the Dispatch: Did any United States presidents spend time the Rivertowns?

“George Washington slept here!” is the stuff of legends — some true, some embellished. In the Rivertowns, however, Washington and his troops were here. The Rivertowns also has connections to Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, James Garfield, William Howard Taft, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Joseph Biden. 

The Continental Army, under the command of Gen. George Washington, was camped on both sides of Military Road (now Heatherdell Road) during the summer of 1781, including the current location of Ardsley High School, where there is a historical marker. Washington was the at home of Joseph Appleby on Secor Road in Hartsdale.
