At 17, Hastings High School rising senior Jasper Zimmerman is an award-winning jazz pianist who’s taking his talent 40 minutes south to Carnegie Hall and thousands of miles away to South Africa.
Zimmerman is one of 22 teen musicians chosen to participate in Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz program. The students, ages 16-19, first met on July 9 and will perform together through Aug. 6, with a concert at Carnegie Hall on July 20 and then a trip to Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town.
NYO Jazz is led by Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Sean Jones, and will perform with guest vocalist Alicia Olatuja.
